Obituary for "Polly"

Aline Pollick Connell

Aline Helene (Pollick) Connell (nee Legal) on Tuesday March 20, 2018 in Winter Haven, Florida after a long illness. Born in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, Canada, the fifth of 13 children of Raoul Legal and Anna Belisle, and was raised in Ste. Genevieve, Manitoba. She left home at age 16 and moved to St. Catharines, Ontario.
Aline worked as a waitress in Niagara Falls NY where she met George Pollick, who played professional baseball in a New York-Canadian league and also worked in the construction industry. She and George married in 1951 and had four children together. Aline became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1954.
Her husband’s baseball career wound down as his construction occupation required him to relocate from Niagara Falls NY, to Oswego NY, back to Western New York. The family eventually settled in North Tonawanda, which Aline would call home for 64 years.
Aline was a full-time mother and homemaker. In the late 1960s, she began working as a cafeteria monitor at North Tonawanda Senior High School, where she befriended hundreds of students over her many years of service and was affectionately nicknamed “Polly.”
A devout Roman Catholic, Aline was a devout member of St. Joseph’s, Ascension, St. Christopher’s, St. Jude’s, O.L.C., and St. Francis Churches. After her husband George passed away in 1983, she traveled on many religious pilgrimages in the U.S. and overseas, including to the Holy Land, Lourdes and Fatima. She met fellow parishioner James Connell in 1997 was married to him from 1998 until his passing in 2001. Aline moved to a senior living facility in Winter Haven FL in 2015.
She was preceded in death by her brother Joe Legal, sisters Rita (Larabie) and Georgette (Cormier), and son Michael. She is survived by brothers George Legal and Armand Saltel; sisters Antoinette (Carriere), Simone (Schlichting), Isabel (Knight), Louise (Guilbault), Odette (Clark), Solange (Caouette), and Claudette (Yurick); children Glenn Pollick (Ann), of Helotes TX, Denise Fie (Bobby) of Winter Haven FL, and Gordon Pollick of North Tonawanda; grandchildren Jocelyn, Garrett and Jillian Pollick and Brad Pollick; Andrew Fie (Amanda); and great-grandchildren Mika and Makaya Moore.
Friends received by the family on Tuesday March 27, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Brunner Funeral Home, 156 Robinson Street, North Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:00 at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 800 Niagara Falls Blvd. Interment will follow at Acacia Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on her behalf to the Alzheimer's Association
