Lois Simpson (nee Wilke) passed from this life to God’s eternal rest on October 7 while under the loving, compassionate care of her family and the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport.
Born in Tonawanda 86 years ago to the late Raymond and Margaret (Garrity) Wilke, she married her husband Joseph V. Simpson on May 1, 1948, then moved to Cheektowaga to raise her family and has been a North Tonawanda resident for the past 33 years. Lois is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph V. Simpson; her children Cathy (John) Werth, Diane (Paul) Frys, Stewart (Pamela) and Joseph (fiancée, Mary Lou Conaway) Simpson. Proud grandmother of Marc (Jennifer) Frys, Dr. Kelly (Dr.Yancy VanPatten) Frys, Megan (William) Severance, Matthew Werth, Andrew and Amelia Simpson. Great-grandmother of Olivia Frys and Xavier Severance. Dear sister of Doris (Jay) Graff and Richard (Joan) Wilke. Sister in law of Mary (the late Edwin) Alf. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mother-in-law of Renee Riopelle Simpson.
Lois took great pride in her Erie Barge Canal heritage, her graduation from Tonawanda High School in 1942 and her service during WWII as a WAVE working at the Naval Communications Center in Washington, D.C. She cherished her years with Joe and her family and friends. She enjoyed the peace and tranquility of her back porch and yard.
Friends received by the family on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Brunner Funeral Home, (692-3841), 156 Robinson Street, North Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher R.C. Church on Niagara Falls Blvd., near Ellicott Creek Road. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Niagara Hospice House, Inc. or the MDA Association of Buffalo.
