Mary Jo Baum, 90, entered into the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 28, 2020 in Altamonte Springs, FL. She lived a full life honoring & serving God, her family, friends, colleagues & students. Mary Jo was the oldest daughter of Jessie Louise Harris Fullerton and Claude Drexel Fullerton of Ashland, KY. She graduated with honors from Ashland HS (1947) and received a scholarship to Ashland Junior College (1949). Mary Jo started a long teaching career that began at Wylie Elementary in Ashland in 1949. She attended Marshall University, WV, where she received her degree in teaching in 1955. She served at First Methodist Church, Ashland, KY, in the choir, primary & junior departments, & as youth director.

She was married to the late Richard Edward Baum (Coach Boomer) in 1954 for 49 years. Mary Jo and Dick were hired as teachers in the Starpoint Central School District in Pendleton, NY (1956) where they lived for 30 years. She was a dedicated coach’s wife, taught multiple grades and 5th grade until retirement in 1986. She was instrumental in implementing team teaching among the intermediate teachers. Mary Jo was a member of the Lockport, NY, Women’s Club and Mother’s Club, and the Metropolitan Chapel. She was a devoted wife, homemaker, and mother to Gail & David.

In retirement, Mary Jo and Dick moved to Deltona, FL in 1989 and were faithful members of the Deltona Alliance Church. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for 28 years, Alliance Women, served as Deaconess and extended her career in teaching by organizing PrimeTimer events & teaching women’s bible study classes. She possessed a profound knowledge of scripture, enjoyed making crafts, traveling and had the gift of hospitality.

Mary Jo loved her family and is survived by her daughter Gail Bennett (Leland), and grand daughter Katelyn Bennett, of San Jose, CA; son David Baum (Diane) of Lakewood, CA; brother John D. Fullerton and sister Nancy Edmond (Gary) of Ashland, KY. Nieces and nephews include Cathy Hanson, David Edmond, Richard Edmond, Bruce Baum, Scott Baum and Linda Leer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Norma Weidenheller (late John Weidenheller), and nephew Tom Baum.

A celebration of life will be held online Sunday, November 15, 2020 @ 4pm EST from Deltona Alliance Church, Deltona FL. Please use the internet link to join.
