Porfirio Garcia
Porfirio Garcia, age 79 of North Tonawanda, entered his new home in the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday (September 22, 2010) surrounded by his family. Mr. Garcia was known to his friends and family as Filo. He was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico in 1930. He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle and the Rosary group. He worked for the New York Central Railroad, Tonawanda Iron and retired from Praxair. Porfirio loved playing dominos, cards and enjoyed making everyone laugh. He loved being around his grandchildren.
Beloved husband of Luz Maria (Martinez) Garcia of 52 years, cherished father of Norberto (Susan), Porfirio Jr. (Karen), Maria (Richard) Cindrich, Naomi, Barbara, Cynthia (Francis) Giles. Proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; loving step-father of Hector Haggerty (Joy); devoted brother of Angelina Navarro and Luisa (Domingo) Ramos, and Angel of Florida, Antonio (Melba) of Columbia.
Son of the late Bartolo and Maria (Lugo) Garcia, father of the late Edwin Garcia; brother of the late Providencio Garcia and son-in-law of Cesaria Martinez and the late Ramon Martinez. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends received by the family on Sunday 1-8 PM at the Brunner Funeral Home (692-3841), 156 Robinson Street, North Tonawanda. Please assemble at church on Monday 10:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. Jude the Apostle Church or St. Vincent DePaul in Porfirio’s name
